Ensemble Ripieno Debut | October 30, 2011 | 7:00 pm
Chatham Univeristy James Laughlin Center for Music
Suggested donation $8 / $5 for students / free to Chatham
Ensemble Ripieno makes its debut in Pittsburgh at Chatham University as part of the Music at Chatham Series. The group's first season promises to be one of the standout musical events of 2011.
Our first performance will feature three concerti by Mozart with special guest, pianist Henry Wong Doe (winner of Audience Prizes at Busoni and Rubenstein Competitions, professor of piano at Indiana University of Pennsylvania).
The program also features performances by horn player Jena Gardner (Lucerne Festival Orchestra, Pacific Orchestra Festival, Ensemble Intercontemporain), violinist Juan Jaramillo (Pittsburgh Opera Orchestra, Pittsburgh Ballet Orchestra) and violist Matt Pickart (Johnstown, Altoona Symphony Orchestras). Federico Garcia, best known to Pittsburgh audiences as the leader of Alia Musica Pittsburgh, will act as the ensemble’s Music Director.
The orchestra operates according to a cooperative model in which members of the group play in exchange for the opportunity to be featured as a soloist. "Pittsburgh is home to an enormous and diverse community of talented freelance artists, and our mission is to provide a platform on which they can each be featured in turn,” founder and flutist Deidre Huckabay said. “We believe that audiences in the community will benefit from the chance to get to know the inspired work of the musicians from their own backyard.”
The performance features Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante, Horn Concerto No. 2 and Piano Concerto No. 23.
